The UWC National Committee of Azerbaijan (NCA) is a volunteer-powered organization responsible for the recruitment and selection of Azerbaijani students wanting to attend UWCs around the globe. The NCA serves as a hub to provide support to UWC students and their families while attending UWC and is a growing network for UWC alumni and friends from and in Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan first established a UWC national committee in the mid-2021 to send students to the UWCs. In our first full year of operation we selected three students for full or near-full scholarships and sent them to UWC ISAK Japan, UWC Mahindra, and UWC Maastricht.

Our Purpose:

The UWC National Committee of Azerbaijan exists to seek out, engage, grow and support the people who make up the UWC community in and from Azerbaijan. We articulate and make relevant the UWC mission and values in the Azerbaijani context.

Our Goals:

• Share and promote UWC values and frameworks in Azerbaijan
• Enable Azerbaijani youth and the wider population to access the UWC movement at-large, attain a UWC education and become a strong part of the wider network
• Enable Azerbaijani youth to scale their skills, abilities, and visions to generate positive impact in Azerbaijan and the world at large
• Indirectly inspire the Azerbaijani educational system and students to explore value-based education that privileges critical thinking, creativity, and independent thought

Our Principles:

• Equity and Inclusion: The NCA strives for equity of opportunity and active inclusion of diverse individuals and communities in its work.
• Transparency and Communication: The NCA is committed to transparent conduct in its activities. To this end, the NCA strives for clear communication (internal, with volunteers, applicants, families, UWC colleges, etc.) as appropriate.
• Value Relationships and Engagement: The NCA aspires to thoughtful and sustainable engagement with its stakeholders (e.g., volunteers, parents, regional chapters, alumni, etc.). The NCC seeks to be a good partner to all UWCs and Azerbaijani youth around the globe.
• Organizational Reflection: The NCA will draw on its past and change when warranted through institutional reflection at regular intervals.
• Financially and Environmentally Sustainable: The NCA endeavours to be sustainable both financially and environmentally with its resources.

As a UWC National Committee, we are committed to serving the Azerbaijani youth and the UWCs around the globe through creating an inclusive culture that gives voice to the wide variety of perspectives across Azerbaijan. To do this, we encourage a wide range of candidates to apply, including people from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds. We encourage you to first volunteer with the UWC National Committee of Azerbaijan in any area (fundraising, selections, nominations, partnerships, etc) as a Member and then apply to be on the Director after consistent two years of volunteer support.
